4 GENERAL LYCEUM OF PATRAS

Our institution consisting of three-storey high building is located near the historical city of Patras.
The area in which the school was built, 10 years ago, is called ‘Aroi’, a name that comes from ancient greek language and exists here since Homeric ages, meaning the land that is being cultivated.
Obviously, Aroi is an area which has been inhabited for more than 2,5 thousand years and consequently nowadays its shape is more urban than rural. Our students are between 15 and 18 years old and their number this year (2013-14) is 304.
Our city, Patras, which is the third biggest port in Greece, has a population of 200 thousands people, is famous for its magnificent sunset and has many important sightseeings such as St Andrew’s church, the medieval castle, a Roman Odeum, the outstanding bridge Rion-Antirrion, the new Archaelogical Museum and a great number of nice squares such as Ypsila Alonia, King George’s I, National Resistance square etc.
Furthermore, Patras has been during the 19th century one of the richest cities not only in Greece, due its commercial activities. You can glance at Patra’s glory past either by walking through roads full of neoclassic buildings or by admiring its central theatre, called Apollon, which was built in the shape of Milan ‘Skala’, designed by the same designer, Ernst Moritz Theodor Ziller. In our theatres often great plays are being presented and Patra’s audience is really cultured.
In a short distance one can visit a lot clean blue seas with sandy beaches, where can find some relaxing hours from the city’s anxiety, especially during summer and autumn!
